RECRUITMENT DICTIONARY

Learn some of the common terms used during recruitment and the Greek community!

Bid

 A formal invitation to membership in a particular fraternity or sorority.

Big/Little

An active member of a fraternity or sorority who serves as a mentor (Big) to a new member (Little), guiding them through the new member program and initiation.

Bid Day

The culmination of recruitment, when potential new members receive bids to join chapters and become new members.

Chapter Meeting

Active members of the sorority gather to talk about problems within the chapter, upcoming events, and vote on matters such as changes to the chapter's bylaws or standing rules or vote in sisters for leadership positions.

Formal Tea/Preference Round

The last round of recruitment, round three. Potential new members attend different chapters on an invitation basis.

FSL

Fraternity & Sorority Life.

IFC

Interfraternity Council.

Legacy

Someone who has had a relative in a certain chapter.

Letters

Greek letters that represent an organization. Usually referring to Greek letters on an article of clothing, sometimes sewn on.

MGC

Multicultural Greek Council.

Nationals

The National headquarters of a specific Greek organization.

New Member

The newest persons who have joined a particular organization or chapter. 

PNM

A potential new member who is eligible to join an organization. 

Recruitment

The process and events potentially joining a chapter in the Greek community.
